I have known Eucharia C. Iwuanyanwu for more than four years. As a colleague in the Department of Lymphoma/Myeloma, I have had the opportunity to observe Eucharia as the only physician assistant among 8 mid-level providers in our department that manages acute Lymphoma/Myeloma inpatients receiving chemotherapy.
Eucharia is a devoted physician assistant. She is self-motivated and well capable of achieving any goal. In October 2007, Eucharia initiated and facilitated an African Educational Cancer Conference in Abuja, Nigeria in collaboration with the M.D. Anderson Cancer Center for Research in Minority Health. In addition, Eucharia planned and coordinated a cancer awareness medical mission to Katsina, Nigeria, in October 2007, where hundreds of people were screen, given medication, and educated on cancer prevention. A few of the people that were seen required immediate surgery, which was performed by a surgeon in the mission group. Eucharia's mission efforts have made such an impact that the First Lady of Nigeria and the minister of health are planning to develop cancer prevention program in Nigeria.
Eucharia is very passionate about cancer prevention and will do whatever it takes to eliminate cancer locally and abroad. She is very much a patient advocate. I highly recommend Eucharia as a candidate for the 2008 Cherokee Inspired Comfort Award.
