Nominated by: Jacquelin Holland

My sister, Lynda, deserves to be recognized as an Inspired Comfort Award Winner. When reviewing the nomination form I read the words expertise, dedication, compassion, innovative and undervalued. She is employed by the Mohun Health Care Center on the campus of the Ohio Dominican College in Columbus, Ohio. Her role is providing nursing care for nuns and priests housed in this center. Our country is recognizing that the fastest growing population is the elderly and attention must be paid to their special needs and concerns.

"In her daily care of elderly patients, Lynda has the ability to plan and implement care keeping in mind the specific needs of each individual."
She has worked in geriatrics throughout her nursing career and has become an expert. In her daily care of elderly patients, Lynda has the ability to plan and implement care keeping in mind the specific needs of each individual. She can be found at home on her days off reading up on medications to stay abreast of the affect on the elderly. She has earned the respect of the nursing staff through her expertise, dedication and support. She treats patients and staff with compassion. Her innovative skills come into play constantly since her patient population represents a very important and sometimes unusual segment of our society. She takes the time to get to know her patients, their histories and their religious contributions which enables her to have conversations and develop relationships. She is not Catholic but has learned the customs and rituals and incorporates them in her nursing care being careful to respect the wishes of her patients.

As I age, my observation of her is that she is definitely the kind of nurse I would like to have providing my own care. During a visit to one of her floors in 2003, I proudly watched her receive hugs, smiles and kudos from her patients. I proudly submitted her photograph and biography for inclusion in the nursing history book printed by the National Black Nurses Association a few years ago and now, my choice for a Cherokee Inspired Comfort Award is my sister, Lynda Lea Chever.
