I have the privilege of working with Carla Stokes, PCA, in the Cranmer Ambulatory Surgical Center at Monmouth Medical Center in Long Branch, New Jersey. She works full time at the hospital caring for patients each day. In spite of her long and exhausting days, Carla is never too tired to be kind to her patients and co-workers. She is never too tired to share her radiant smile with our patients and their families.

We work with a lot of children in the surgi-center, and they usually come to us several days before the scheduled surgery for their pre-op bloodwork. As you can imagine, they are not too happy to see us on that day! However, Carla is a different story. She jokes with the children and makes silly faces to get them giggling. She uses many diversionary tactics such as blowing bubbles, singing songs, and doing goofy dances to distract them from the unpleasant task at hand. Once we obtain the blood work, she'll take them for a slush puppy from our "famous" machine and give them their school bus bags to take home with them. By the time they leave us, the children and Carla have become fast friends. When they return on their surgical day, they ask for her by name!
Carla is a woman who gives her all in everything she does. She is hard working, caring and gifted in her people skills. She provides comfort and love to her patients and co-workers at all times. I have never seen her have a bad day. I am proud to nominate her for the Inspired Comfort Award. She inspires me to be the best person I can be every day.
